The Manager, Instructional Design is a team-oriented, hands-on innovate leader with a passion for mentoring others, improving team processes, staying apprised of current instructional design trends, and creating industry leading curriculum and high-quality courses for American Career College. The Manager, Instructional Design is a self-motivated and forward-thinking solutions provider with a holistic approach to program and course development that works closely with academic program leaders, subject matter experts, and the curriculum and technology team to oversee the course development process and schedule for industry leading courses and curriculum by using current design theories, project management techniques and software, and higher-education industry best practices.

 

 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Oversees curriculum and instructional design projects, instructional design staff, and day-to-day operations for American Career College.
  • Manages operational components for the instructional design team and tracks open projects and tasks in the department project management software.
  • Designs and develops instructional materials for online, blended and web enabled courses for ACC academic programs aligning to ADA and accessibility requirements, organizational style guides, and instructional design and industry best practices.
  • Conceptualizes and produces a wide variety of instructional elements including, but not limited to, course syllabi, storyboards, lessons, assessments, graphics and multimedia presentations.
  • Interprets instructional needs and collaborates with subject matter experts in various disciplines to translate complex information and concepts into easy-to-understand learning materials that are technologically advanced, scalable, and forward thinking.
  • Leads ADA and other compliance efforts in relation to course and media design, accessibility, and other state federal or programmatic accreditation requirements related to online, blended, and virtual learning.
  • Builds and enhances team processes surrounding quality assurance while reviewing the course content, activities, assessments, and other learning assets in the LMS.
  • Working with the Director, Curriculum and Technology, develops and implements policies, procedures, and guidelines for creation and delivery of online, blended, and web enabled courses.
  • Provides centralized support for instructional innovation, engagement opportunities, and instructional design theories for the various campuses regarding best practices for online learning in web enabled, blended, and online courses.
  • Develops organizational standards for course delivery at ACC and uses continuous process improvement to elevate and improve quality standards, documented team processes, and student engagement with course materials.
  • Leads compliance efforts in online learning for program design, accessibility, and other state federal or programmatic accreditation issues related to online learning.
  • Develops, implements, and publicly documents policies, procedures, and guidelines for creation and delivery of online, blended, and web enabled courses.
  • Collaborates with the Director, Curriculum and Technology to improve and enhance the overall course development process, subject matter expert workflow, and curriculum and technology team handoffs to ensure efficiency during development and deliverables adhere to organizational and industry best practices.
  • Responsible recruitment, supervision, and professional development of the instructional design team members and provides training opportunities in online pedagogy and instructional technologies for faculty and staff responsible for curriculum development.
  • Provides LMS, instructional design, outcomes, and course development-related self-help materials, training seminars, and direct support to faculty and staff, instructional designers, and the curriculum and technology team.
  • Leads, promotes, and encourages the development and implementation of innovative teaching and learning strategies and technology tools in all courses at ACC.
  • Manages external resources, publisher partner, and education technology vendors that promote and support innovation in online educational delivery.
  • Researches new technologies and instructional design theories and stays current with instructional technology tools, online learning trends, and pedagogy best practices. Works with the curriculum and technology team to develop plans to introduce these findings.
  • Works with the entire curriculum and technology team to ensure timely creation of live course shells and course sections in the LMS and ensures proper processes and quality assurance measures are followed.
  • Communicates with department personnel when approaching out of office time to create team awareness and hand over un-resolved casework.
  • Participates in various team virtual collaboration spaces to confirm receipt of information and communicate when signing on/signing off.
  • Participates in meetings with camera enabled to maintain professional web presence.
  • Responds to all emails, calendar invitations, and project updates with professional and courteous language.
  • Adheres to College/University policies and procedures and conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the College/University's Code of Ethical Conduct, Compliance Agreement, Sexual Harassment Policy or any of its policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, and applicable professional standards.
  • Maintains regular and timely attendance, reports to work as scheduled and as required to meet the needs of the College/University and assures time worked and/or time-off is recorded properly.
  • Exercises care, proper use and maintenance of department equipment and supplies and identifies unsafe conditions and makes appropriate adjustments.
  • Multitasks on multiple projects, producing high quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the Company's Code of Ethical Conduct, Compliance Agreement, Sexual Harassment Policy or any of its policies and procedures, applicable federal and states laws, and applicable professional standards.
  • Maintains established department policies, procedures and attends in-services and other required meetings.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all student, associate, and/or company information as required.
  • Exercises care, proper use and maintenance of department equipment and supplies and identifies unsafe conditions and makes appropriate adjustments.
  • Maintains order, cleanliness, and safety at work.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

 

Preferred Education, Certifications & Licensures:

  • Experience working with LMS outcome tools and developing outcomes reports.
  • Experience in the fields of allied health, nursing, or science is a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of LMS functionality and course development and deployment processes.
  • A strong sense of design and aesthetics.
  • Experience and displayed proficiency using various instructional technology tools to support online learning such as; Adobe Captivate, Articulate Studio, and the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Working knowledge of Panopto, Kaltura, or other enterprise-level video solutions.

 

Required Education, Certifications & Licensures:

  • Master's degree in education technology, instructional design, higher education leadership, or closely related field required.
  • A current Driver's License is required.

 

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum 2 years' experience leading instructional design teams to support online and hybrid course development.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience developing higher-education courses through current instructional design learning theories and following industry best practices required.
  • Successful experience leading operations in a large, decentralized university.
  • Extensive experience with a templated course model of course development and design.
  • Extensive experience implementing, and assessing strategic plans related to processes, procedures, and team capacity.
  • Extensive knowledge of, and experience with, the implementation of learning theories related to curriculum and instructional design and media development with an emphasis on competency-based instruction.
  • Experience in managing development schedules using the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation & Evaluation (ADDIE) model, Scrum software development framework, or traditional project management techniques.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, instructional technology practices and services related to academia in higher education institutions.
  • Knowledge of and experience with computer software and systems utilized in instructional design and delivery.
  • Proven history and ability to recruit top talent and manage departmental staff.
  • Knowledge of copyright and accessibility requirements related to educational content.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of academic technologies such as: online discussions, web conferencing, blogs, wikis, and various learning management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability in creation and delivery of a variety of training approaches (in-person, online- synchronous and asynchronous).
  • Understanding of higher education accreditation and regulatory requirements and the impact on online learning.
  • Experience using and developing with some, if not all, of the following applications: Canvas LMS, Adobe Creative Cloud, Web Conferencing tools, HTML & CSS, Articulate 360 or Adobe Captivate, SnagIt and Camtasia, along with Microsoft Office (particularly Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong team-building skills and the ability to work well with a wide variety of individuals, including faculty, administrators, and technology professionals.

USD $98,454.61 - USD $142,710.62 /Yr.

Outside CA Salary Range

USD $86,434.51 - USD $125,335.55 /Yr.
